A Whiff of Construction No. 9

It’s Thursday, and time to check in again with the progress being made at No. 9 Walton, the building that Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture designed for JDL Development at 9 West Walton Street.

The Gold Coast tower is quietly rising next to its sister property and block-mate, Walton on the Park at 2 West Delaware Place. Though “quietly” may not be the word you would use if you live nearby, like Gold Coast Spy Tim who filled our tip line with these photos.

While the Gold Coast hasn’t been turning surface parking lots into skyscrapers as rapidly as River North has over the last few years, it’s taken some positive steps to fill in the gaps in its urban fabric. Most notably, the evolution of the Hotel Cedar into the Viceroy Hotel designed by friends-of-the-blog Goettsch Partners; and 4 East Cedar, designed by other friends-of-the-blog Solomon Cordwell Buenz.
