It’s been a long time since we’ve done an edition of The Tops, where we show you the tops of Chicago buildings that people normally can’t see.

This time it’s the top of River Point at 444 West Lake Street, where construction crews are glassing over the angles and curves imagined by Pickard Chilton Architects for Hines and Ivanhoé Cambridge.  The picture, like so many others, comes from Joe Zekas over at YoChicago!.

As you can see, the top level facade is shrouding the mechanical and HVAC systems, with what appears to be a double-height floor just below.  Soon those tiny people in hard hats will be replaced by lawyers, and law clerks, and paralegals, and whatever other kinds of people occupy the law offices at the tops of Chicago’s best buildings.
