If you’ve ever wanted to live in Evanston, but don’t enjoy the bustle of its quaint downtown, plus you enjoy having multiple redundant methods of commuting into the city, then what’s going up at 847 Main Street is right up your alley.
The Main (formerly Chicago+Main) is a nine-story building with 112 apartments that’s nearly complete near the south end of town. Among its big selling points are that it is pretty much across the street from both the CTA Purple Line, and Metra’s Union Pacific-North line.
There’s also a Starbucks across the street to the north, and across the street to the west is the Chicago-Main Newsstand, an institution that makes literate people do bad things with their credit cards.
The building by Riverside Investment & Development Company topped out in the spring, and looks like it’s nearing completion, based on the photo sent over by Joe Zekas at YoChicago!.
The building is being touted as “mixed use” because it has retail space on the ground floor, and offices on the second floor. Unfortunately, it’s also going to come with a surface parking lot for the employees who work in those spaces.
Technically, it’s at 835 Chicago Avenue, but is using the 847 number because it’s much cooler to have your address and your area code match.
