A single photo can say a lot. In this case, what the photo below is doing is documenting the growth of bKL Architecture.
Joe Zekas of YoChicago! snapped the photo from Aqua, the celebrated building where bKL has its offices.
Also in view, on the left, is bKL’s The Coast (2013, 345 East Wacker Drive) — 45 stories of residential delight along the Chicago River.
In the bottom of the frame, you can see bKL’s colorful and striped GEMS World Academy (2014, 350 East South Water Street), the first of two school buildings planned for this location.
And then in the center are the two cranes helping build Chicago’s second-tallest building, the 1,144-foot Vista Tower. Though hyped as a e design, it’s bKL that’s the Architect of Record.
The rise of Vista will obliterate the views of Navy Pier for residents of Aqua. But that’s something of a tradition at Lakeshore East, where each successive skyscraper does its predecessors a similar favor. Yet somehow even when your apartment view goes from gorgeous Lake Michigan shoreline to an oversized Now Leasing banner on the new building next door, the rent doesn’t go down. Go figure.
